Formed in 1875 from a section of Clarke County, Oconee County was named for the river flowing along part of its eastern border. Comprised of 186 square miles, Oconee County includes the incorporated towns of Watkinsville (the county seat), as well as Bishop (est. 1890), Bogart (est. 1869), and North High Shoals (est. 1933).

Quality of Life is an expression that is often used to define the cultural, geographic, historical, educational and economic distinctiveness of a community. The best adjective to describe Oconee County's Quality of Life is abundance.
Are there serene countrysides, great shopping opportunities, a thriving artistic community, high-tech and successful legacy businesses, superior public and private educational opportunities from pre-K through graduate levels, public recreational emphasis, historical landmarks, and the kind of caring people that make neighborhoods and subdivisions real homes? Absolutely yes, in abundance!

A mentor can make a positive difference in a child's life. OARC recruits and trains caring adults who enjoy working with children, respect the challenges of growing up and want to make a positive difference in a child's life. Volunteers are trained, matched and spend time mentoring students in Oconee County Schools K-12.
Typically, a mentor will spend a school lunch hour each week with their child. The individual attention and encouragement they provide can be invaluable during their formative years.
If you want to mentor a child in Oconee County Schools, please call us at 706-769-4974, email us at [email protected] or download the Mentor Application.

School isn't just a place for learning... For some of our kids, it's also the most reliable source of food in their lives. The Oconee Food for Kids program was created to help bridge and even close the hunger gap for students in Oconee County Schools (OCS), by providing a bag of nutritious kid-friendly food to children who might not otherwise have enough to eat over the weekend.
Please help us provide enough food for weekend meals and snacks for children identified as being "food insecure" by Oconee County School officials.
